Anti-TPLF movement reaches Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples region


Two villages burnt down after the Konso community demand for Identity and Self-Determination (pictured) was denied by TPLF/ EPRDF government in Ethiopia.

Score of people have been left homeless after the incidence and the majority of the people in Konso have taken their protests by occupiing the local prison and releasing 60 inmates.

Gemech Gemise, the Konso Community Identity and Self-Determination committee member said, "our demand has been ignored for so long by EPRDF even though more than 50,000 people signed petition to form its own Konso zone."

The Konso, also known as the Xonsita, are a Cushitic-speaking ethnic group primarily inhabiting in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples region in south-central Ethiopia, and has its own special administrative area with over 350,000 people.
